Baby Boomers And Hearing Loss - Best Help For The Hearing Impaired

Baby boomers are a happy and contented generation. They actively participate in various aspects of life, even politics. They are also the most health-conscious generation that ever lived. Studies have revealed that baby boomers pay more visits to their family doctors when compared to the previous generation.
Brief History of Baby Boomers
The United States enjoyed a lot of economic prosperity after the Second World War. The war itself was a great factor responsible for this economic prosperity. A large number of cities were ruined in the war. The United States immediately converted factories that had produced wartime products into factories that produced peacetime products, and this move created a number of lucrative jobs for Americans. Unemployment was unheard of during this time, and jobs were plentiful for all people who were Caucasian, had the ability, and were willing to work hard. The United States exported a number of products and made huge profits.
The American government placed a lot of emphasis on education. It encouraged families all over America to create children. This resulted in a rapid rise in population, especially referred to as "baby boomer generation." The baby boomers were born between the end of the Second World War and just before the Vietnam war, from 1946 to 1964. In 1946, the United States saw the birth of more than three million babies, and the number continued to rise during the years to come.
Baby boomers were born and brought up in a comfortable world. When they entered their youth, the Vietnam War had begun and people were fighting for their civil rights all over America. The baby boomers participated acitively in the causes of civil rights and freedom. They also fought against discrimination with regard to race, age, creed, and gender.
Baby Boomers and Hearing Loss
Baby boomers have now entered into the last phases of their lives. Some of them are are facing age-related disorders such as loss of hearing. Baby boomers enjoy leading active lives and would like to continue living actively till the end of their lives. Many baby boomers therefore consult audiologists for help in managing and controling their condition.
John M. Burkey has authored a book titled Baby Boomers and Hearing Loss. It was written with the intention of helping people, especially baby boomers, to deal with hearing disorders. The book comprises advice and guidelines on how people with hearing disorders can manage their condition and continue to lead a healthy lifestyle.
Baby Boomers and Hearing Loss comprises in-depth information on preventing the worsening of hearing disorders. It explains the process of hearing and the various causes for the occurence of hearing disorders--from loud noises to genetic factors. The book also presents information on the prevention of hearing disorders and how to deal with a pre-existing condition. Hearing disorder is related to the process of aging. The book also points out ways in which a person can improve his or her quality of life in spite of having a hearing disorder.
The reviews of baby boomers who have read this book reveal the fact the book is indeed very helpful. Readers even reported an improvement in the quality of their life after reading this book and following its advise. Baby boomers, who wish to live actively in spite of their hearing disorders, will be happy to read this book. So, if you feel that you have a hearing disorder, purchase a copy of Baby Boomers and Hearing Loss.

Baby Boomers And Political Effects - Reason Behind How America Is What It Is Today!

Firstly one has to understand all about baby boomers and who exactly they are. These are actually those who were born within the period starting from 1946 to 1964. The name baby boomers came in because of the high birth rate in this period. As a statistical fact, there was an addition of 78 million births in that period.

Nowadays our very own baby boomers are turning into their middle age. Today or so they turn 50 years in age as frequently as every 7 seconds.

The birth period of these baby boomers as they are called is set in the period of high social strife of civil rights protest and the gory scene of the cold war. This has resulted in them having distinct cultural and political patterns in their characters. This is the very baby boomer generation which made the United States of America what it is today. It was the baby boomer generation who paved and led the way on to a modern living. The fact that these boomers came of age in a period of high social tension like the civil rights protest made them well aware of the political and social tensions that the country faced then.

Who were the leading protesters in the Vietnam issue and also in the case of the draft? Baby boomers! Not just that but also the fact that this was the very generation which revolutionized the rock and roll music like the Beatles, Motown Sounds and the Beats.

The time of the baby boomers was when the Americans emerged as super powers and their main enemies were the socialists and communists, one can not fail to notice how these people's very view on governmental policies, military were so different from that of the rest of the world.

Even today the baby boomer heroes of yesteryear continue to protest against social malfunctions such as unemployment off late. This is mainly because of the fact that during their period unemployment was not at all heard of, provided one is Caucasian and one is not unwilling to work.

Now the baby boomers form a large part of the industrial, cultural, academic and political leadership in the US. Actually George Bush and Bill Clinton, two very important presidents in America's front, were indeed born in the period of the baby boomers.

Clearly one can notice that it is the baby boomers are the one leading nations today. Looking in at the administration of the Clinton and the Bush period one can notice the common ideologies that was implemented. Both their schemes concentrated on civil rights and more emphasis was given to reformation of the military.

One also observes that the two presidents have also been working to increase the rate of the economy of their country, in which they have succeeded well too. They have tried to improve the standard of living. They have always been working to make the life of every American easier to live. This is mainly because of the strong cultural and civic influence they had in their childhood.

So whenever you are treated well and you are given your fundamental and civil rights on due and are respected you should think of all those baby boomers who have made it possible right from their era. The baby boomers have well laid down the way to a better living thus making the United States of America one of the most sought after places to live in today.

Baby Boomers and Retirement - Is a Home-Based Business in the Future?

Baby Boomers - Retirement is Coming

Retirement is coming for the Baby Boomers, and it may be coming faster than some would like. To their parents retirement meant a gold watch, and a comfortable if not affluent life after work, but baby boomers have a different perspective now. They may not be ready to retire financially, but more importantly, they may not want to quit working for mental or emotional reasons.

The AARP reports that 79% of the boomer generation doesn't plan to stop working at age 65. This number is far greater than both the generation before them and the one after. Why is this and what does it mean?

Some will argue that it is because they are not prepared for retirement financially. While this is true to some extent, they are much better prepared than the generations following who don't save much at all and want to retire earlier.

Baby Boomers are concerned about Social Security. They most likely don't have as much to be concerned about as Gen X and Gen Y, but that doesn't mean there is no concern. Social Security started in 1935, and at that time only slightly more than half of workers lived to reach the retirement age of 65.

These days, though, life spans are much longer (boomer's average lifespan may approach 90), so we now have only two workers contributing to the system for every one withdrawing from it. Social Security has been identified by many experts, and I think correctly, as a Ponzi scheme since the day FDR started it in the 30s.

Many people think they withdraw the money they paid in, but this has been shown not to be the case. There really is no Social Security trust fund.

Medicare faces the same demographic challenges as Social Security, but additionally must cope with the rapid expected growth in health care costs. Baby Boomers have reason to worry here as well.

Add to this that Baby Boomers are known for an almost unquenchable desire to look and feel young. They are quite fond of most other creature comforts as well.

Will Baby Boomers Retire?

But maybe the most important reasons that Baby Boomers don't want to retire are their strong work ethic and their personal identity being tied up in what they do. Steven Rothberg at the CollegeRecruiter.com blog says "The shorthand description that I like to use is that Baby Boomers live to work and Gen Y'ers work to live."

Baby Boomers like to work, and they like to do it their own way as they get older even if they were always an employee when younger. Paul and Sarah Edwards in their book The Best Home Businesses for People 50+ describe several reasons why those over 50 choose to work at home. Two of those reasons are "We want to try something new, stimulating, and challenging," and "We want to spend our second half 'our way,'"

Attempts are being made to keep workers in the traditional workplace in some industries. Among the options likely to grow more common in order to retain our aging population of workers are part-time positions, job sharing, flex-time, consulting arrangements, and extended time off when possible. As baby boomers age these types of arrangements may be beneficial both for maintaining the workforce as well as satisfying the desires of the boomers.

But some Boomers are more independent, and have or are considering striking out on their own. An ever more attractive option for this generation may be to work form home. Online businesses fit in nicely with the boomer lifestyle, too, because they allow a more flexible schedule than running a traditional storefront type business. They can be reasonably successful part time at least initially, and often can be started with relatively low initial investments.

Studies have shown that nearly 72 percent of boomers age 51 to 59 go online, while 54 percent of 60- to 69-year-olds surf the net. So the boomers have mostly embraced the internet, and are much more comfortable with computers than the proceeding generation.

The trend in most age groups is to more self-employed jobs as the economy changes from the old industrial model to a more information based society. The traditional job really is becoming rarer and not just shipped overseas as we are told by the media and our politicians.

Home-Based Businesses as a Solution

But for the Baby Boomer, who is even more likely to be downsized because of age and the perceived lack of modern skills (whether that is true or not), home-based businesses are becoming very attractive. Some are taking a preemptive approach to this and not waiting for the pink slip.

For those who are looking for a business finding your niche is probably the hardest part. In Paul and Sarah Edwards 2004 book mentioned above, the authors discuss many businesses in several categories including "Serving Business Clients," "Helping Individuals and Families" and "Turning Your Hobby into Income." You can find everything form Aromatherapy to Wedding Consultant and Planner there.

A Harris Interactive study found that 62 percent of boomers are concerned they won't be healthy during retirement. Businesses that help them stay healthy, such as health food and nutritional supplement stores (even on-line) or health clubs focusing on low-impact exercises could be in increasing demand.

If you are looking for a home-based business, my advice would be not to overlook the network marketing businesses as well. With the new internet models of attraction marketing to generate leads for your business, good income can be made with very little initial investment, and without even having to talk to friends and family. The business can be very much automated over the internet.

In the early stages of the business when income is very low, you can even use affiliate income as you build your clients. If this sounds difficult and you have no idea where to start, there are several great programs out there to teach you how to do this. And they don't have any connection to a certain networking business. You can choose your own.

You can see a list of my favorite resources for guiding you through the business set-up process by going to my attraction marketing blog. Again, you won't find any recommendations for a network marketing company here, just a list of low-cost resources that can give you step-by-step instructions on setting up a complete business, generating leads to business clients to business associates, that even a computer novice can understand.

There has never been a better time to establish a profitable home-based business than right now. Check it out today; I'm sure you'll be happy you did.

Daryl Ballard is an internet network marketing coach whose passion is teaching others the most effective way to attract leads for their business on-line. Using the New Model of Attraction Marketing he teaches enables you to find leads that already want what you have to offer while generating affiliate income that pays you to generate leads. He strongly recommends the Renegade Network Marketer University for its low cost and simple click-by-click instructions as the best way to reach your dream MLM business, because even a computer novice will follow it easily, so all efforts are easy to duplicate.

Baby Boomers Impact On Your Website Design

If you haven't thought of Baby Boomers in regard to website design, you may want to review your thinking.

The first of the Baby Boomer group are turning 60 and they are retiring. Why should you care? For starters, Baby Boomers are the largest segment of our population. That would be a lot of people to ignore. And their needs and desires are going to differ from those of the, up to now, very young computer users.

The first of the Baby Boomer group came to computers late. Although they might not have warmed to the idea of a computer driven world if left alone, a huge segment of this population has been forced into the computer world by their employers. Having gained some comfort with computers in the workplace, Baby Boomers have become much more likely to make computers a staple item in their homes.

Although I am aware of the dry statistics about Baby Boomers, much of what I am saying about Baby Boomers is from first hand observation.

I live near Palm Springs. The population in this area on a year round basis is an older population than that of most locals across the country. Many retirees have made this their full time home because of the climate. And, every fall and winter our population balloons when many retirees flow to our community in RV's for the season. Plus another large group who maintain winter homes here.

Why am I telling you all of this? Because maybe I know some things you may not have thought about. You see, I know, from first hand observation that these retirees, many of them Baby Boomers, bring lap top computers in those RV's. And many who have Winter homes here, have them equipped with desktop computers. I also know, that these Baby Boomers are not just sending email and jokes. They are surfing!

Baby Boomers are not sitting by the window watching the neighbors go by. These people are busy. They love to shop, they love to travel, they have money. Baby Boomers are going to spend some of their time online shopping and if you want your share of that market, you'd better be ready to meet their wants and needs in planning your website design.

That brings us to what this all has to do with website design. Bifocals! Reading glasses! Many people at or soon after 40 find that reading is not as easy as it used to be. Even many who have always had good vision and never before needed glasses find that reading can be difficult. Anyone designing a website should know that reading online is harder than just reading a book. Whether you do your own website design, or have a professional design your website, keep this in mind. Making your website an easy read is important for all your visitors. It is especially important as Baby Boomers become such a large part of your potential market.

The Baby Boomer phenomenon is just at it's beginning. The Baby Boomer segment of the population will span most of the next twenty years. The last of the Baby Boomer group will be 42 this year.

Consider the size of your fonts when designing your websites. Contrast is another important factor. I see many websites that not only have tiny fonts, but they are often in muted shades even a twenty year old would find a challenge.

Many elements of website design are important, when you consider the needs and the tastes of the group you are marketing to. Audio with no surfer control, flash, colors that are hard on the eyes, small fonts, lack of contrast between font color and background could all be a turn off.

Considering the following five factors could be important to the degree of success you have in your online business over the next few years.

1. Baby Boomers are surfing.

2. Baby Boomers like to spend money.

3. Baby Boomers have money.

4. Baby Boomers will have time in the coming years to surf and shop.

5. Baby Boomers as the years go by will be from the younger segment of this population and will have had more time and experience using computers and the internet.

Will Baby Boomers shop with you? Or, will they find another website that has implemented into their website design what these folks are looking for, and are comfortable with? Baby Boomers will be the largest segment of our population for most of the next twenty years. Make this a consideration when you plan your website design.

Baby Boomers Retirement - How It Impacts the US Economy

The term "baby boomer" refers to a person who was born between 1946 and 1964. According to the U. S. census of 2000, there are around 83 million baby boomers. Now, the baby boomers are between the ages of 42 and 60, a fact indicating the exit of baby boomers from America's workforce.

The generation of baby boomers has sprung from a period of economic prosperity and the joy of the post Second World War years. Perhaps due to the times in which they were born, they have not just reshaped the culture of their country, but also redefined themselves.

Baby boomers have attracted a lot of attention due to their distinct features and outlook on life. They belong to an affluent generation that has had a major impact on the U. S. economy.

What Do Baby Boomers Feel about Retirement?

A large number of surveys and studies have been conducted on baby boomers. The following facts were brought to light by a special investigation conducted to determine the baby boomers' views on retirement.

Baby boomers are looking forward to retirement because it will give them an opportunity to focus on family life and pursue their hobbies and interests. For many of them, retirement is a golden opportunity to pursue another career more suitable to their age and taste.

Baby boomers aim at both professional and personal fulfillment, due to which they focus a lot on preparing and planning for their future. Social security means a lot to them because they utilize to the full the benefits of life and health plans.

Baby boomers are optimistic with a conservative outlook on money and financial matters.

Baby boomers became more successful at the finanical level than their parents. Compared to their parents, they are more likely to work even during their leisure days.

Baby Boomer Impact on U. S. Economy

U. S. economy soared when the baby boomers made their entry into the American workforce. They constituted the major source of labor. Their retirement from the workforce will naturally have a major impact on the country's economy.

The United States Bureau of Labor Statistics fortells an acute shortage of labor that has to be given immediate attention. This labor shortage is believed to have an adverse effect on the country's economy.

When baby boomers entered the workforce of American the economy grew at a rate faster than the growth of its population. When the baby boomers retire from the workforce, the growth of American labor force will be much slower, and it will be more difficult to maintain a flourishing economy.

Solutions to America's Labor Problem

The only way for the United States to save its economy is to persuade its current workforce of baby boomers to continue working for a long time. To encourage baby boomers to retire late, companies and organizations can use the following methods:

Raise the retirement age of those who receive social security pension to 67. This will encourage baby boomers to continue working till the age of 66 so that they enjoy the full benefits of their social security pension.

Redefine pension benefits so that people who extend their stay in the workforce will receive more pay. This method will bear more fruit than just raising the age of retirement to 67. It will inspire baby boomers to hold on to their respective positions for longer years.

Baby boomers enjoy preparing for a financially secure retired life. Due to this, the above-mentioned offers will inspire and encourage them to hold their jobs for longer periods of time. Companies as well as baby boomers will enjoy equal benefits if baby boomers extend their stay in the workplace.

Long-term Solutions

Companies are very much aware of the impact caused by retiring baby boomers on the country's economy. They have to prepare solutions to deal with the problems caused by a depleted work force. Organisations and companies that have hired baby boomers must modify their policies to accommodate their senior baby boomer employees. At the same time, they must seek lasting solutions to the problems caused the retirement of senior baby boomers. Learning about the views of baby boomers toward retirement is one of the ways of dealing with the situation.

The only solution to the problem of labor shortage would be the retention of senior workers, correction of gender imbalances at work, hiring of immigrants, and outsourcing work. Several American companies and organizations are planning to do this, and some have already begun to use these solutions.

Thai Airways launches Carbon Offset Programme

Thai Airways International has launched a Carbon Offset Programme with IATA to provide customers with the opportunity to viturally offset carbon emissions generated from flying.

The IATA programme calculates the carbon emissions based on a methodology developed by the International Civil Aviation Organization. The system utilizes IATA?s long-established financial system to enable airlines and their customers to purchase ticket and offset at the same time.

The IATA Carbon Offset Programme only invests in UN-approved Certified Emissions Reductions (CER) projects and voluntary credits, which comply with the recognized Gold and or Voluntary Carbon Standards. The entire customer contribution goes to the sponsored projects. As transparency is critical to ensure that money collected result in reduced emissions, in this regard, the IATA offset program has been independently approved by the UK?s carbon offset quality assurance scheme.

When customers book TG online, they can check the level of emissions created by their flight and make a financial contribution that will be devoted exclusively to the officially approved renewable energy projects worldwide such as: Thailand?s Biogas Waste Heat Based project in Nakorn Ratchasima, Jordan?s Fuel Switching at Aqaba Thermal Power Station, Chile?s Biomass Project Neuva Aldea, Peru?s Landfill Gas in Ancon, Brazil?s Braco Norte IV Small Hydro in the Guaranta Do Norte County, and Mato Grosso State in Mid-West Brazil.

Tourism Fiji Applauds Air Pacific's Hong Kong Boost

Tourism Fiji CEO Josefa Tuamoto has applauded Air Pacific?s decision to boost its Hong Kong-Nadi route with a third service from next December describing the national carrier?s move as a huge boost for Fiji's tourism aspirations in the key China market.

Mr Tuamoto said the airline?s decision to implement the new service ten months ago had been more than vindicated by the substantial increase in Chinese visitor arrivals Fiji had welcomed since Air Pacific commenced flying on the route.

?We have seen an exponential increase in our visitor arrival figures from China with 2010 Q2 numbers already closing in on the 8000 mark,? he said. ?This has effectively pushed China into place as our eighth main source of international arrivals.?

Mr Tuamoto said while the numbers came off a relatively small base, the 7,684 Chinese visitor arrivals recorded for the period January to June represented a close on 32% increase over the same period last year.

?This is directly attributable to the success our tourism industry has enjoyed since Air Pacific implemented the direct services,? he said.

Mr Tuamoto also paid tribute to the efforts the local tourism industry has gone to in the China market to raise Fiji?s profile and the potential the destination has to offer Chinese visitors.

?We?ve put in some very hard yards to attract and engage this prime source of visitor arrivals,? he said.

This, he said, included attending major consumer and trade events and staging travel agents workshops in Guangzhou and Hong Kong.

Just last month in Shanghai with Prime Minister Josaia Voreqe Bainimarama and Minister for Tourism Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum in attendance, Tourism Fiji launched the national tourist office?s first ever Fiji travel planner for the Chinese market.

Mr Tuamoto said a significant competitive advantage the Hong Kong-Nadi service represents is the variety of airline options it offers to connect Fiji with others parts of northern Asia.

This is particularly the case with India where the tourism industry has been active in recent months delivering industry updates and travel agents workshops in Bangalore, Mumbai and New Delhi.

The national tourist office has also hosted several key media and travel industry groups in Fiji as part of a rolling strategy designed to increase awareness for the destination.

?India like China has a rapidly expanding, very well heeled middle class ? add to that the potential the VFR (visiting friends and relatives) market represents,? he said. ?We have already seen an increase in numbers from this market since last December, our six month total January to June taking Indian visitor arrivals to 1437, an increase of 28.6% over the same period in 2009 ... Admittedly this figure is again off a very small base but that figure has pushed India into place as our ninth source of international visitor arrivals.

?Just as the Japanese market represented huge opportunities several years ago, today?s burgeoning China and India markets represent huge potential for many competing destinations around the world,? Mr Tuamoto said. ?So it is extremely pleasing to see our national airline take an even bigger role in enabling our industry to gain an even more strategic foothold in these key markets ... With Hong Kong- adi flights being operated on a codeshare basis with Cathay Pacific, the service also represents a good alternative option for our UK and European visitors.?

Characteristics of Baby Boomers - The Good And The Bad Involved

Each person is different in their own way. This makes him/her different from the others. Even siblings differ a lot. Still, with the distinct characteristics of every person, he/she still should be able to achieve a good relation with other people.

Lots of generations have existed and also exist now. For ages now, each and every one of them has a certain uniqueness that makes them different from the others. If you are a baby boomer, this would obviously be known by you.

What or rather who are baby boomers? The answer is that people born after the II World War are baby boomers who were babies born between 1946 and 1964, the prospering time of a country after war.

Baby Boomers have characteristics that are very different and unique when compared to that of the other generations. This maybe the result of the fact that they were brought up in an American Military dominated world. They lead life in a world which offers wonders like awesome gadgets and household appliances. During that time, you found unemployed individuals only very rarely. In other words, almost all the families lived a happy and prosperous life.

The academic leadership, political, cultural and also industrial classes are also dominated almost completely by the baby boomers. The prominent individuals, Bill Clinton and George W. Bush are baby boomers and both illustrate diverging ranges of values and attitudes.

The baby boomers' families have the maximum incomes in America. There are also early and late boomers and the generation is marked mostly by early boomers as late boomers did not experience military drafts. The late boomers were more identified by many cultural factors which they were even able to share.

The late boomers, also, are called as the X's of the early generation. Presently, they are in a position where they wish to make a historical mark. The birth of baby boomers indeed makes history, and may even be the reason as to why they, in their right, are idealists. They are supposed to have a very big influence and impact over political and cultural matters. They belong to higher positions of power and the leaders there exhibit vision, decisiveness and can even withstand the worst of situations.

But baby boomers are famous not only for their positive attitude, but also for tendencies that are destructive like ruthlessness, arrogance and selfishness that can result in factional strife or outright despotism.

During the midlife of any baby boomer, they re-evaluate all things that have any relationship to their personal life. Those that have families concentrate on the success and failures obtained by their children as they want only what are best for them. A few boomers go even to the extent of directing and managing the lives of their children.

They are very much over-protective parents. They wish to sanitize everything that is seen by their children, even television programs. This is completely opposite to their childhood when they wanted to indulge everything with very few restrictions. Through their children, they wish to make improvements in the society.

Baby boomers, though being known as counter-cultural types and as hippies, also have interests in personal and social improvement. However, this, usually is exhibited after they become old.

Baby boomers were also greatly criticized for being anti - youth and ageist. This is evidenced further by the phrase 'do not trust anyone who is over 30'. However, not all of them are like this. There are even those who follow the society's social norms in their time.

All people, boomer or not, are all indeed important individuals who have the potential to contribute a lot for the world. People ought not to concentrate on the generation or era that they are from, but must make sure they do everything that will contribute to prosperity and peace of mankind.

Every person has characteristics that are positive as well as negative. Nobody is perfect, and it is an established fact. There are people who claim to be perfectionists. However this does not mean that they are perfect as people. It is only natural to make mistakes being a human being. But, the important thing is that one must learn from the experience given by the mistakes committed in the past. If you wish to improve your own self, you can do so. However, you must ensure that the improvement is for the better.

Wandering Baby Boomers - Reasons Boomers Love To Travel

One of the famous novels that almost all baby boomers familiar with is "On the road". This novel was written by Jack Kerouac. This novel dealt with the explorational and curiositic attitude of young people. This novel was published when the baby boomers were young adults. So literally this novel has become a bible for all baby boomers. It further grew in popularity when the boomers entered college. Thus the logic behind the lives of baby boomers can quite easily be deciphered. Baby boomers are not the people who will remain in the same place for a long time. These people are highly energetic and are always curious. These people are always ready for travel.

Baby boomers (adults) beginning a comfortable travel industry and reaching new peaks is not a new feat. It is neither surprising nor astonishing. Baby boomers retiring early and becoming wanderers is not something which is new. If these people start wandering they can go on non stop. The final statement is that these boomers are people who are highly interested in traveling.

For the baby boomers the spirit o adventure is not something which is triggered, it comes to them instinctively. Traveling has become a common routine for the retired baby boomer. It is not only the curiosity of traveling that makes the baby boomers travel, but it is a due to the urge to know more, to learn more and to experience more. If these boomers keep traveling like this, they will become global citizens of this world. Baby boomers becoming wanderers after the retirement age has become more of a routine practice nowadays .When traveling like this, these boomers meets new people and learns new languages and gets exposed to the outer world.

Adventure is a cup of tea that baby boomers had always held. This can be witnessed by looking into the great kind of literature that has become popular due to these boomers. The Lord of the Rings can be taken as a great method of how the baby boomers see this world like ordinary creatures, hobbits; these people go on road to do certain things to save their own world. It is No wonder that the trilogy has become the anthem of these boomer generations who have always looked at their selves as adventurous people with a specific mission to do something nice for all the people in this world.

Hitting the road with their RV may seem tame to the observers who are watching, it definitely appeals to the sense of life that is not restrained. This helps these boomers to combat their feeling that the whole world is closing on them. There was a popular song in the 60s it was called, "Born to be Wild" it was a really excellent tune. It displayed the self-image of boomers as youth who were only shortly civilized and these people had a part of themselves which will never get tamed. The freedom from work and no responsibilities adds on to the aging baby boomers that have been caught by responsibilities of life, work and family for almost throughout the younger side of their lives.

Nowadays, boomers don't see retirement as the time to get back to the adventurous way of living. Sometimes it is mostly the opposite, boomers look at this as a t chance to live life in the roads in their RVs to get an opportunity to set free the inner wanderer.

So as boomer lovers, let's try not to rein in their free spirits, even those spirits which live in an aging mom and dad or grandma and grandpa. Boomers will be a sure inspiration to the generations to come. So that they will live a planned life with good responsibility and ideas and still retain a small amount of their natural wildness.

Studies On Baby Boomers - Interesting Facts Revealed

If there was one generation that has shaped the way this country is now that is the baby boomers. Just look at everything that is around you from the workplace to science. Baby boomers have had a huge role in just about everything that has happened in the modern United States. Without them and their ideals, this country could be a vastly different place.

First baby boomers need to be defined. While there are different variations of baby boomers, the group as a whole is considered the people born between 1946 and 1964. There was an increase of babies born after World War 2. With the economy becoming stable, families had the opportunity to grow and the birth rate increased. Baby boomers account for a huge part of the population now.

Look at everything that went on while the baby boomers were growing up. It's not hard to figure out why the baby boomers had such a huge effect and they turned out the way they did. Baby boomers grew up during a time of civil unrest. They dealt with the civil rights movement, the Vietnam War and the Cold War. They helped changed the workplace and fought for equality. Civil rights has always been an extremely important issue for baby boomers. Many baby boomers fought in Vietnam or knew many people that did. Because of all of these different political and social situations, baby boomers understood the difficulties facing this country.

The workplace is different than it once was. There is less discrimination and there were laws passed that dictated these changes. The equal opportunity employment has created a workplace environment that is great for everyone and limits problems. Companies are not allowed to discriminate for any reason such as sex, gender, sexual orientation and age. Much of this is due to the baby boomers.

Equality didn't come without a fight. Baby boomers recognized this and were growing up when the American military was massive and working toward a goal. You can see this influence in the baby boomer presidents - Bill Clinton and George W. Bush. They used the military to swiftly handle problems without prolonging issues. Most of the problems over the past several years were skirmishes rather than the bloodbath that the Vietnam War had become. The Vietnam War greatly influenced baby boomers because they didn't want to go through those problems once again.

One area that has received a great amount of attention from baby boomers has been space travel. The baby boomers grew up at the start of space exploration. NASA has received plenty of money and many have been deeply involved with the area.

Many studies have been done over the years on baby boomers that you can find on the Internet. The studies have been looking into the future of baby boomers. The huge amount of babies that entered the population wasn't thought about until the last decade or so. Now, that the baby boomers are entering retirement years, there is concern that there isn't going to be enough social security to cover all the baby boomers.

Private companies and the government are working at helping the baby boomers once they retire. The problem is once the baby boomers retire there will be less income because there will be less people working. Also there will be more people that are retired, which will put a drain on the economy. The baby boomers account for 22 percent of the country's population.

Baby boomers need help once they retire. They helped shape the way the country is now that it would only be fair to give back the way baby boomers did for the current generation.

It is true, owing to the sheer number of baby boomers that live in the nation today. Still, baby boomers are increasingly complaining about discrimination because of age in the workstations. You never ought to forget that these were people who grew up in an era where they matured fighting for American civil rights and in an era where unemployment was virtually nonexistent.

You ought to also keep in mind that these were the ones who were responsible for the way you are leading life now and fought for none but your rights as a great nation's citizen. American Airlines to Change Terminals @ San Francisco International Airport

American Airlines, which has served the San Francisco market for more than 60 years, will relocate its operations to San Francisco International Airport's (SFO) new Terminal 2 in spring 2011 from its current location in Terminal 3.

In conjunction with the terminal move, American will construct a brand-new Admirals Club lounge for customers to enjoy before, between or after flights.

In the new terminal, American will have 14 ticket counter positions and 20 self-service machines for its more than 30 daily departures at SFO. The approximately 575,000 square foot terminal will boast six security screening lanes, free Wi-Fi throughout the terminal, more comfortable lounge areas with ample electrical outlets, plus 12 restaurants and nine retail stores, including a gourmet market with a wine bar and spa.

Once the terminal is completed, it is expected to receive Silver LEED Certification under the U.S. Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Designs (LEED) program. In addition, major works of art will decorate the environmentally ? friendly terminal.

Customers will be able to use mobile boarding passes, as well as preferential parking for hybrid cars, and quick access to BART, the Bay Area's public transportation system.

"We are pleased to relocate into a brand-new space that is both functional for our customers and employees, and is environmentally friendly in its design," said Tom Del Valle, American's Senior Vice President ? Airport Services. "The LEED-certified terminal will allow us to provide exceptional customer service while reducing our environmental impact."

American's new Admirals Club lounge is also expected to be a Silver LEED-certified space. Located in Boarding Area D, just beyond the security checkpoint, the Terminal 2 Admirals Club will span more than 9,000 square feet and offer seating for up to 165 guests. Upgraded amenities will include a multi-functional business center with HP PCs, a walk-up cyber cafe with HP TouchSmart computers and complimentary high-speed Internet, a TV lounge with flat-panel TVs and private spa-like showers.

The SFO Admirals Club operates daily from 5 a.m. to 12:15 a.m. Prices for new, annual Admirals Club memberships are based on the level of American AAdvantage membership and range from $350 or 50,000 AAdvantage miles for a new Executive Platinum membership to $500 or 80,000 miles for a regular membership. One-day passes are available for $50 and may be purchased online, at self-service check-in machines, or any Admirals Club location.

Airlines Enhance Security

Multiple U.S. airlines have begun using Smiths Detection?s portable trace detection systems at boarding gates as part of an initiative to enhance airport security.

The IonScan 500DT and Multi-Mode Threat Detector (MMTD) are being used to check hand luggage for traces of explosives immediately before passengers board flights heading to the United States.

Mark Laustra, Vice President of Homeland Security, Smiths Detection, said, ?We are pleased to help U.S. air carriers make air travel as safe as humanly possible, and these orders are a great example of how the airlines are working with the security industry to intelligently expand layers of security through a variety of technologies.?

The detectors, one desk-top and the other hand-held, provide particle and vapor analysis by using Ion Mobility Spectrometry (IMS) technology, detecting both explosives and narcotics from a single, easily gathered sample. Rugged design and portability enable the systems to be readily taken from gate to gate at boarding areas.

Smiths Detection provides training and support to the airlines to ensure maximum functionality and proper care of the detectors.

The company, with major manufacturing plants in eight U.S. states, also supplies industry-leading X-ray inspection systems, bottle liquid scanners and other threat screening technology to around 80% of the world?s airports.

A Lot More Pilots Needed

According to a crew assessment forecast from Boeing, the commercial aviation industry will require 466,650 pilots and 596,500 maintenance personnel over the next 20 years to accommodate the strong demand for new and replacement aircraft. Airlines will need an average of 23,300 new pilots and 30,000 new maintenance personnel per year from 2010 to 2029.

"When you add up all the numbers, you quickly understand the issues facing this industry," said Roei Ganzarski, chief customer officer, Boeing Training & Flight Services. "Our challenge is adapting our training to engage the future generation of people who will fly and maintain the more than 30,000 airplanes that will be delivered by 2029."

The largest growth in both pilots and maintenance workers will be in the Asia Pacific region with a requirement for 180,600 and 220,000 respectively. Within Asia, China will experience the greatest need for pilots and maintenance personnel - 70,600 and 96,400 respectively.

North America will need 97,350 pilots and 137,000 maintenance workers; Europe will need 94,800 pilots and 122,000 maintenance personnel; Africa will need 13,200 pilots and 15,000 maintenance personnel; the Middle East will need 32,700 pilots and 44,500 maintenance personnel; Latin America will need 37,000 pilots and 44,000 maintenance personnel; and the CIS will need 11,000 pilots and 14,000 maintenance personnel.

"To accommodate this growing demand, it will be vital to match training with the learning styles of students to come," Ganzarski said. "As an industry, we need to adapt to the learning styles of tomorrow's technologically savvy pilots and mechanics, and ensuring that training is globally accessible, adaptable to individual needs and competency-based."

The crew assessment forecast is based on Boeing's Current Market Outlook.

Change, Baby Boomers and Retirement - Issues in the Balance

Change is the one thing that we as baby boomers know a lot about. We have been instrumental in changing politics, education, technology and even the way we think. If there was any over riding themes from our generation it would be humanity and technology.

We have gone full circle in breaking away from the perceived norm to creating what we consider is the norm. Yet interesting enough we have also created several other issues that were not as prevalent in the prior generations. We now have a sandwiched in generational issue, such as having to take care of our parents and our children into our later years.

Change did come but at a cost. We look at our retirement accounts and realize most of us have not saved sufficiently to retire at or when we thought we could. We are the most generous generation that has given beyond the "hurt" threshold. Our humanity, our want to have world peace has never been greater than it is today. We have learned to not only adapt to change but to initiate it.

We as a generation invented the internet, launched people to the moon and back. We have survived the onslaught of assassinations of our most loved leaders. We as baby boomers know what sacrifice is and have to this day continued to sacrifice our children, give to our communities and change the way we communicate and function in society. Baby boomers have extended their life span 10-20 years at least by government statistics. Yet at the same hand we have failed to look into our personal futures to decide what we truly need to change for our individual selves.

It seems that no matter how or why we attempt to stay away from wars or conflicts certain governmental responses seem to be over reactive or a continuous repetition of the mindset of prior generations. Some baby boomers still have not learned the lesson of the past so are doomed to repeat it and thusly our own retirements suffer. We adapt or change what we are doing and find that we need to do more not less. We had the idea of world peace and technologies that would help extend our lives, a governmental system of support that would take us well into our retirements. Yet, we failed making it a necessity to work into our late 70s or 80s or simply never retire at all.

Change we must to offset the on coming issues that will leave us devastated with financial shortfalls. Do we invest in a market that will certainly capsize when the retirement draw downs come to a peak? Do we become more or less of what we truly can be? I believe that our generation is still very alive and very strong. Will our retirement be made of what we had dreamed or is it one that we be our worst nightmare?

As baby boomers how do we take care of our parents who are also living longer? Can we stop working and still afford to keep up their lifestyle as well as ours? I don't believe that it is too late. We have options but within those options we need to start breaking through some of our beliefs that was impressed upon us from the generations that preceded us. Change is something that we as baby boomers learned to do well. We can approach this new set of issues from a different prospective. The main problem is not employing strategy; the problem is the ability to increase our awareness and to change our approach. This is a marker that now more ever before we must change our thinking about our future.

Future pacing is what we need to avail ourselves of. We need to learn more about how we change our thinking and follow through with a new way of doing things. We can not rely on the investments of the past and we can not believe that we will have employment to retirement. We have seen the downsizing, rightsizing and out sourcing of corporate America. We need to look to the future and adapt as baby boomers the appropriate response to the on coming events that will unfold over the next several years.

Retirement planning is not just the dollars and cents figures that it takes for us to continue the lifestyle that we have been accustomed to. It is more than that, our change must come from what we see in the future for ourselves and our families and yes for our nation. Our change must come from how we see ourselves, what we want to be, doing and have in our "twilight years." Baby boomers once aware of issues that are upcoming which may vary for each of us, but those issues will not be going away anytime soon unless we take action to ensure that we have a future.

As baby boomers we have seen the bickering of the government agencies and bodies, over social security, health care and education. Whatever the final decisions that are made by our elected officials we know this much, the benefits will be simply a partial subsidy to our needs and wants. I don't want to paint a bleak picture, because we have the power to change what we do and how we think. The current trends will either force us to work until we expire or shrink in the lifestyles that we have been accustomed to. Yet we do have more options than that and unless you have hundreds of thousand of dollars or millions in the bank now, you won't be approached by investment bankers or brokers.

We have to change our thinking here. We need to create a retirement plan that will accommodate all the possible issues that may or will come up in the future. As baby boomers we have many times set new directions not only in our own lives but affected others in theirs. Our retirement strategy needs an overhaul. Plain and simple, the dollars and cents issue is very important we do live in a capitalist nation. Capital is what buys us our freedom to do what we want and when we want it. Our needs as baby boomer are different. Some of us want a quiet retirement, one without any real needs other than to have our homes paid for and our life made simply comfortable. That is a strategy that can be implemented by taking actions now to ensure that happens by simply calculating what we really need after we decide to retire. Some of us want the ability to continue to grow financially and have a life that we can do more than what we have done in the past. As baby boomers this will take some real work and we need to employ and implement longer term strategies that will exceed that which we already have saved or invested for at this time.

In either case on the above, even if you fall in the middle or not in range at all, we need to strategize what our future needs will be and how much will that costs us now and then. This is a matter of change, our parents had simple strategies such as work for one company, then retire and the pension plan along with social security will take care of the rest. Well I don't believe that plan will work for more than 79.9 million of the 80 million baby boomers. Nope, I just don't believe it.

To change our situation we must change our thinking and employ new strategies altogether. Imagine you are 62 and you are looking to retire in some sort of way. Then it happens, the investment start to lose money. Of course the brokers will not call you to advise that you need change your strategy unless you are one of top dogs. Remember Enron? I don't recall brokers calling the pensioners and telling them they need to move the money into CDs or money markets do you? Yet the smart broker's, laced their pockets with options by placing "puts" on Enron and became wealthy at everyone else's expense.

One thing about change, sometimes when you are not aware of what you need to know, you will experience your own ignorance. Taking this example of Enron is one of the best. In most of the interviews, the people who were retired they didn't realize that the company was failing until it was splattered all over the paper or when they simply stopped receiving checks. They didn't know, well what you don't know will hurt you. Ignorance is no excuse. I would believe that monitoring your retirement money would be one of the major things that you will keep track of. In this case too many people got hurt due to their own ignorance. Now, you may think that this is harsh, but it is the truth. The question is why did these people not monitor their investments? The answer is not because they didn't know it is because they had a habit or pattern of thinking that corporations do not fail, though they have evidence to the contrary.

You may say there is no empirical evidence to substantiate the statement I have made above. Yet let me point out, if that is not the case then why were people snow balled into believing that this company was succeeding when the statistics showed they were failing? It was simply the belief from the preceding generations that the company you work in will supply your pensions and benefits way into the future. It was the paradigm or conditioning of the past. You may not believe it so finish these statements for me "you are in it for the long ____, buy low sell ____." Now, you hear some other avenues of thought, such as place a stop loss at 5% or 10%. If you are a union member you don't have control of your 401K or you may have partial control because they are managed by others. Some are good managers and some are not so good, either way they make money whether you lose it or not. As baby boomers we must change our thinking and expand our vision beyond our current retirement plans.

It is not all gloom and doom and we have the intelligence to look beyond what we have. We can change our thoughts as to what we want to see in our own future. Retirement now is not our goal, our goals is what will we do after we no longer need to work. Which begs the question will we retire in the lifestyle that we want or will we be forced to work beyond the span of time that we hoped for? I believe that we have options as baby boomers in that we do have money available or we can start to look into other possibilities that did not exist when our parents were working.

Let us entertain the idea, that we can establish multiple sources of income beyond our own pre-planned retirement income or funding. Let us look at the internet, investments, savings and even real estate. Now you may be saying where is all this money that would be needed to invest or to start up and operate all these things. Well again this is up to the individual and where he or she stands right now. The probability to generate additional sources of income that you control is going to be much more profitable than what any government subsidies will ever give you. It is to your advantage to start looking at these right now.

What is the cost of your mortgage? Will you be able to keep up with the future rate of inflation? Do you have enough to retire at 62 or 65? Is your 401K or IRA big enough to fund 10-20 years after you retire? Will you have to continue to work or return to work after you retire? As a baby boomer do have projects or plans you want to execute when you no longer have to work? Are you going to have to take a part time job during retirement? Is that what you really want to do?

We need to look at what we need to change. Let us look at our politicians. Now they don't get one paycheck a week or month on doing their civil duty. They also make money on investments, giving speeches, sitting on the board of directors for different companies, writing books, campaign funding and list goes on. If you look at Trump and many of the different icons, they don't make money from one source. Take Tony Robbins, who makes money from books, personal appearances, personal consulting, and from the different programs that he has ongoing.

In future pacing you may want to look at these models all around you. Even your own company unless it really specializes on one thing, you would see the multiple profits centers that they have. It is never just from one source. The only reason a person lives from one paycheck to another is because they are not aware that they can generate multiple paychecks from several sources of income. I wouldn't say it would be easy, but with a definite plan it will be possible.

Now this is not all about money either. Money makes things easier but at the same time, it is also about you and what you want to do. In some cases, we may want to increase our skills, whether it is in

computers' or art. Study is also a major part of your future. Most baby boomers have stopped the learning cycle, they will do some training maybe on software or some required educational updates, but no real intense study of any other discipline. In this day and age when a person graduates from college his education is out of date 18 months later.

What skill or new talent would you like to have? Is there some part of your past education you would like to know more about? Do you have a genuine interest is Finance, History, Psychology or Art? Do you have or want to go back to school? What are your goals? Do you have any goals? Do you want to achieve something in your life? Do you want to write the next great American Novel?

Baby boomers are not asleep to all these issues or desires. There is an awareness of these things, but some don't confront them. As a life coach I see these issues pop up, they are all resolvable. They do take planning but before planning change is necessary. One has to change their view of their retirement years. It is so important that baby boomers take these things very seriously. It doesn't mean that your life is bad, grim or anything like that it just means that you need to make decisions. You need to make them sooner rather than later.

It is my assumption that you want more of the good life. When will start? What are you willing to give or give up too appropriate the life that you want? Let me remind you that this is a process. You may not be able to change your life right now, but you can change its direction overnight. I believe you want to achieve the goals you had envisioned when you started your working career, but you won't hit a target that you can not see.

We are the masters of change. We have created more breakthroughs in our generation than any other preceding one. We have the ability to do anything that we truly believe we can do. Don't leave these unlimited possibilities on the table of life. Life has a way of rewarding those who think and change. Life also has a way of punishing those who don't think and change. You decide.
